“If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself but to your own estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any time” ~ Marcus Aurelius
Marcus Aurelius is my favourite Stoic philosopher & this quote is also reflected in Buddhist teachings, Victor Frankl’s ‘Man’s Search for Meaning’, as well as NLP models that I use as a basis of my coaching.
To believe that you can choose to create your own experience of reality is #phenomenal.
You may need to learn some skills, to get support on increasing your self awareness especially of what’s going on in your inner world – your mindset, your emotional triggers, your old reactive habits…
Then arm yourself with strategies to control and manage these, so that it becomes easy and natural.
Maybe some things in life are going to be painful but we amplify and repeat the pain through the way we respond to it.
What is the benefit of carrying around an old story, a negative thought loop, or an awful picture in your mind?
Edit it. Break the cycle. Paint over it.
Our thoughts create our feelings and our experience in life.
Learn to manage your mindset and revoke distress, and you will feel better, respond better, be more empowered, enjoy life.
